Event to Raise Drug Addiction Awareness Tuesday Night in Seaford
The free event, lasting from 7 to 9 p.m. will take place at Stein Highway Church of God, located at 425 E. Stein Highway in Seaford.
“Part of our goal is to educate the public to be able to address the epidemic that has reached our state,” said Pastor Dan Southern of the Stein Highway Church of God in Seaford.
The program will be facilitated by Christine Foote, a community member and volunteer who provides addiction resources. She will be offering expertise to help raise awareness about the issue and encourage others to be a a part of the solution to the drug epidemic.
“Christine Foote is going to be sharing about the mechanics of addiction, how it affects the brain and the side affects of addiction,” Southern said.
Attendees will learn critical knowledge to help people struggling with addiction. Community members are invited to attend, as well as social workers, first responders, medical personnel, counselors and members of law enforcement.
The event also aims to raise community navigators: people who volunteer their time and energy to provide support for addicts looking for help, according to Southern. He said community navigators are knowledgeable of the system of care and able to direct others- such as a friend or family member – to vital resources and help guide them through the process of recovery.
“Sometimes they don’t know where to turn,” he said. “We’re trying to educate individuals that could step in that role, and help the moms and dads, aunts and uncles who have relatives that are struggling with addiction.”
