The Downtown Berlin Farmers Market believes fresh produce is a staple among the local community, which is why they sell fresh goods to the public every week.
Susan Wood, owner of Sassa Fras Meadows Farm and market master at the Downtown Berlin Farmers Market in Berlin, Md., says the market is going into its 25th year of business.
“The late Tom Patton, associated with the Berlin Chamber of Commerce started the Downtown Berlin Farmers Market. He contacted farmers and asked them to start a farmers market to build a flow of people to Downtown Berlin.”
Wood says the market vendors are extremely consistent. Although the number of vendors continues to grow each year, A & W Farms, Winbrow Farms and Hastings Brothers Farms have been with the market since day one.
Whether you are looking for beautiful blooming flowers, local seafood or homemade body scrubs, the Downtown Berlin Farmers Market has it all. Wood says making sure the community is served fresh produce is an absolute priority and making sure the Downtown Berlin Farmers Market is truly a grower producer market is even more important.
“Everything brought to the market is from local farms and greenhouses… The meat and baked goods are not made commercially, not purchased wholesale… That is the only way you can guarantee your costumers are buying farm to market fresh products.”
Wood says the market predominately gets customers from Berlin, Md., Ocean Pines, Md., West Ocean City, Md., Newark, Md., Snow Hill, Md., Selbyville, Del. and Frankford, Del. but they are always looking to expand their reach and cater to those coming from out of town.
The Downtown Berlin Farmers Market runs from April until the end of December, every Friday from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m., with the exception of the Friday after Thanksgiving. Beginning June 8, the farmers market will add Wednesday evenings from 3-6 p.m.
