Dock Day on the Bay Waterfront Festival This Saturday in Crisfield
The event, which celebrates the fishing culture of the Chesapeake Bay, will feature food, live music, crab picking, oyster shucking, historic fishing boats and a blessing of the fleet. Seafood fare includes tuna steak sandwiches and crab cakes from local restaurants.
Claire Otterbein, executive director of the Crisfield Heritage Foundation, said this event is not just about the city’s past, but its present.
“The current culture is so important, and it’s going on right here,” she said. “Fishing is actually their livelihood.”
Otterbein expects more than 1,000 people to attend the event.
People will get the chance to meet fishermen along the waterfront, view the work fleet and see historic fishing vessels. The U.S. Coast Guard will also be on hand to perform drill demonstrations. Activities will be provided for children along with “Safety at Sea” presentations.
Other highlights include fish cleaning demonstrations, maritime related arts and crafts, fishing gear displays, seafood cooking demonstrations and a blessing of the fleet ceremony.
“I think people will find it to be an authentic experience of maritime life,” Otterbein said.
