Delmarva Company’s Bicycle Giveaway Ushers in Christmas Season
Fifty children in Delaware and the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland will experience an extra special Christmas this year by being given brand new bicycles, courtesy of First Class, an HVAC, plumbing and home performance business based out of Millsboro, Del.
First Class is kicking off the holiday season on Thursday, Dec. 1 with Christmas 4 Kids, the company’s first annual Christmas giveaway.
Christmas 4 Kids was created with the intention of touching the lives of as many children and families as possible. First Class Marketing Director Jacki Slonin said the idea was a collaboration of herself and owner Tim Pulice, who had been searching for a way to get more involved in the community for a while.
“Tim wanted to find something to make his own and build every year,” she said. “The idea woke him up at 5 o’clock in the morning a couple of days ago and we immediately got the ball rolling.”
Slonin said choosing bikes this year is doubly special because in addition to making children happy, gifting bikes is the perfect way to get kids up and moving again.
“You don’t see too many kids riding bikes anymore,” she said. “Bikes will get the children out of the house, moving and active.”
The giveaway is open to any deserving child within First Class’ service area. A parent or guardian can apply for their child or if a child feels they are deserving, they can apply for themselves by filling out an online application.
“The online form allows First Class to tailor the bike to each specific child,” she said. “There are no restrictions, whether they are a teenager or a young kid we can get something for them.”
After the drawing on Dec. 19, children will either have the bikes delivered to their home or can have a parent or guardian pick them up from the company. There is an option on the form for home delivery and if they choose so, Santa will personally deliver the bike to them.
Slonin said she and Pulice are thrilled with the potential of this giveaway and how it will grow and develop into something bigger for years to come.
“This is the first time, but it is certainly not the last,” she said. “It was named the way it was so that the next year and the year after that we can change up the giveaway. This year it’s bikes, but next year it can be something different.”
Slonin said that out of all the things that Pulice and the company have done over the years for the community, this is the one they’re most anxious to grab by the horns and put their all into.
“We’re going to be busy little elves over this holiday season, but it isn’t without great purpose,” she said. “We’re eager to get started.”
