Third of Ten 2016 Jefferson Award Winners: Jay Tawes
“This gentlemen never says no to anyone who needs help,” said coworker Cathy Asanovich.
Tawes’ list of selfless work could fill a textbook. He has been instrumental in improving the Crisfield Heritage Foundation’s J. Millard Tawes Historical Museum and regularly raises money for local churches.
When Hurricane Sandy ravaged Crisfield, unsurprisingly Tawes did what he does best: help his neighborhood recover and improve. All of these generous actions are why he has won the Frank Morris Humanitarian Award. They are also why he deserves the Jefferson Award.
“It’s the people that make it all worthwhile,” Tawes said. “Every bit of it, it’s the people.”
