David Ricks: First of Six 2021 WBOC Jefferson Award Winners
Federalsburg, Md., native David Ricks created “Men for Change,” a youth outreach group, 12 years ago.
The Air Force veteran noticed there were a lot of young people running around without a positive place to hang out. Two years later, he opened up the group to young ladies, as well.
The youth work throughout their community — even cleaning it. They also have a number of field trips — from the VFW to colleges (both here on the Eastern Shore and in Washington, D.C).
Ricks’ organization has even taken the young people to a Philadelphia 76ers game. Most expenses come out of his and his volunteers’ pockets. However, the father and husband says it’s all worth it to put kids on a different path.
Ricks says the young people in “Men for Change” who didn’t go on to enroll in the military or college are doing great things on their jobs.
Just a few reasons why David Ricks is multiplying good as a 2021 Jefferson Award winner!
