Bluegrass by the Bay Provides Unique Setting for Live Music
A one-of-a-kind bluegrass festival in a one-of-a-kind destination.
The fifth annual Bluegrass by the Bay will take place at Castaways RV Resort & Campground on Sept. 29- Oct. 2. The festival offers one, two and three days passes to check out local, regional and national bands.
The annual event brings together bluegrass fans from all walks of life to enjoy some of the greatest bluegrass bands playing today. According to Bluegrass by the Bay Festival Coordinator Brandon Darley, the location of the festival on the edge of the Sinepuxent Bay is what really sets it apart.
“Being able to stay on site with a lot of bands and a lot of guests can run into them, we even have some campers staying 25 feet behind the stage,” Darley says. “I think a lot of it is the atmosphere.”
Among the list of performers for this years festival are Blue Highway, The Boxcars, Breaking Grass and Code Blue. Darley says the organizers have worked to continually improve the talent and acts coming in year after year.
“We’ve been developing the name of the festival, building the name the festival and as it grows, we’ve had a bunch of bands that have approached us,” Darley says. “It’s a really cool experience which really draws people in.”
In years past, the festival has welcomed close to 500 guests. Darley says his favorite part about the festival is watching the musicians turn it into their own.
“A lot of bluegrass bands’ sets aren’t pre-planned, it’s not pre-orchestrated or practiced,” Darley says. “It’s a unique experience to see musicians play from the heart and off-the-cuff.”
One day passes for the event are $70, two day passes are $80 and three day passes are $90. For more information on the festival, visit ocbluegrass.com.
