iHeart Media Holds Inaugural School Supply Drive in Salisbury, Md.
On Saturday, Aug. 22, members from iHeartMedia will be outside of the Staples located on North Salisbury Boulevard between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. collecting school supplies for those in need. People can bring supplies they have had at home or they can purchase them right in Staples to donate outside of the store.
“This is the first year we are trying this event out, it has the same principle as our annual ‘Stuff the Bus’ each December,” said Victoria Kent, promotions director.
All the school supplies that are collected will be turned over to The Good Ole Boy Foundation in Salisbury. The group will be making backpacks with the supplies they are given and will be distributing those backpacks out as they are contacted.
“We will distribute them as we are contacted and after that we will be dropping them at local schools,” said Shane Payne, of The Good Ole Boy Foundation. “Anyone in need can message our Facebook page.”
The group is starting small but hopes to grow bigger much like its “Stuff the Bus” drive.
“‘Stuff the Bus’ started in just one location and over the past few years we have grown so much we started receiving 2,000 toys in a six-hour period,” Kent said. “All the events have to start somewhere.”
Event organizers are excited to see how the first year goes.
“Even if we can get school supplies for a dozen kids, that’s a dozen kids more than before…although we are hoping for much more!” Kent added.
